Samuel Ray Scott

WINTER HAVEN - Samuel Ray Scott, 70, of Winter Haven, Fl passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007 at his residence due to a long battle with cancer.

Born March 6, 1936 to Mason and Elizabeth Scott in Saxe, Charlotte County, VA, he has been a longtime resident of the area. He was a graduate of Winter Haven High School, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was the owner of Scott’s Shell and U-Haul in Winter Haven. Mr. Scott was also a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Auburndale, FL where he was a former member of the Board of Directors, Assistant Treasurer and served as an usher. He was also a former member of the Civitan Club, Gideon Intl. and the Winter Haven Board of Realtors.

Mr. Scott is preceded in death by: his parents, two brothers, Benjamin Scott and Charles Scott; and a sister, Carolyn Scott.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary F. Scott; a son, Samuel R.”Scotty” (Alison) Scott, Jr. of Tampa, FL; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Scott of Sacramento, CA; two brothers, Berman (Ruth) Scott of Chase City, VA and James (Betty) Scott of Brandon, FL; a sister, Margaret Goodwin of Bethesda, MD; and a grandson, Samuel R. Scott, III.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 5:00pm till 7:00pm at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven, FL. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00pm, Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the First Missionary Baptist Church of Auburndale with Rev. David Gurgel officiating. Interment will be Saturday in the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Farmville, VA. Condolences may be sent to www.oakridgefuneralcare.com.
