HAINES CITY - "Herbie" Herbert James Barker, 67, of Haines City, FL died suddenly Sunday, January 22, 2012 at home of heart failure.

He was born on October 20, 1943 in Providence, RI to W. Kenyon Barker and Ethel Gladys Sherring.

He is survived by his wife, Gail (Bakken); daughter and son in law Laura and John Crowe of Rumford, RI; Granddaughters Abigail and Lorelai Crowe, brother W. Kenyon Barker, JR of North Kingstown, RI. (His brother George Barker is deceased.) and his brother from another mother, Lee Wilber of Davenport, FL.

He retired from the City of Warwick Highway Department where he worked for thirty years and from Walt Disney World -Wide World of Sports after ten years. He dedicated years to coaching women's softball both in RI and FL.

A gathering of friends will be Monday from 3-4 pm with a memorial service to follow at 4 pm at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City. Burial will be private in Rhode Island.
