WINTER HAVEN - Robert Gerald Young, 87, of Auburndale, FL went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Winter Haven Hospital due to heart failure.

Born May 4, 1923 in Menominee, MI to Russell and Laura Glanz Young,  Robert was an Electrical Engineer and Aerospace Technician, who worked for Boeing for 19 years, then Honeywell until he retired at the age of 67. He worked on many top secret projects throughout his career, the most memorable being the first lunar orbiter which took the first pictures of the back of the moon. He was a private pilot who loved to fly. He had many different planes of his own during his lifetime,  logging over 2,000 hours. 

He is survived by: his wife of 49 years, Betty Lou Hasseld Young; four daughters, Joni Raines, Laura Black, Katie Noderer, and Beth Gooden; and fifteen grandchildren, Aaron, Rachel, Sara, Melissa, Nathan, Bryan, Travis, Gavin, Tina, Stephanie, Todd, Julie, Kasey, Drew, & Jake.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am till 11:00am, Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven.  Funeral Services will follow at 11:00am  with Pastor Noy Sparks, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park in Lakeland.
