LAKE ALFRED, FL – Kenneth J. Tavener of Lake Alfred, passed away Thursday,March 25, 2010 at home from heart failure. He was 84.
A native of Hughesville, MO, born March 11, 1926, Ken moved here in 1988 from Cleveland, OH. He retired from General Motors as a Machine Operator, Served in the US Army during World War II; he was a life member, and two time Past Commander for the American Legion Post #8; member of the Winter Haven Moose Lodge; the Winter Haven Masonic Lodge #186 F&AM; life member of the Elks Lodge, and he was also a member of the Mid Florida UAW retirees.
Ken is survived by his sons: Donald Tavener of Lenexa, KS; Craig Tavener of N. Kansas City, MO; James Tavener of Commerce, TX; his daughter: Connie Istas of Plano, TX; and his brother Charles Tavener of Windsor, MO. He also has several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and his best friend and guardian: Thomas Snover of Haines City.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 5 to 7 PM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in WinterHaven. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10 AM from the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery at 2 PM Wednesday, with full military honors.
