Ft. Myers, FL - Evelyn  Wanita McClain, 85, of Auburndale, FL died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers due to heart failure.

Born to Floyd and Emma Swanson Hosler January 17, 1925 in Columbiaville, Michigan she moved to Auburndale 40 years ago from Flint.  Evelyn was of the Methodist faith and was retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. where she worked as a bookkeeper.  She was also known as a community activist and an activist for the U.A.W..

Preceded in death by her husband, Manley McClain in 1985; 2 brothers; and 5 sisters, she is survived by:  a sister, Erma Minca; a special friend and niece, Pat Newman; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm till 2:00pm with services beginning at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven, FL, Saturday, July 3, 2010.  Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park.
