AUBURNDALE - Mrs. Edna Laura Abbott, Age 82, formerly a resident of Auburndale, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010 at her daughter’s home due to respiratory arrest. 

Mrs. Abbott was born January 17, 1927 in Auburndale, Florida to Dewey and Ollie (Tillman) Hodge.  She was a lunchroom employee for 17 years at Lena Vista Elementary School in Auburndale.  In later years she was known as “Granny” to all the neighborhood children, family and friends.  Granny enjoyed sitting on her porch with her dog, Magic, watching the birds and squirrels that she fed daily, and enjoying her plants.  She was a member of Lena Vista Baptist Church in Auburndale, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Mulberry #57.  Granny was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 46 years, James “Jim” Ellis Abbott, Sr., and son, Jerry Daniel Abbott.  Edna is survived by her son, James Ellis (Joyce) Abbott, Jr. of Geneva, AL; Son: Thomas Dewey (Vicki) Abbott, Sr. of Auburndale, FL; Daughter: Carolyn Elizabeth “Ann” (Vernon) Cagle of Winter Haven, FL; 13 grandchildren:  Jim, Laura, Lindsey, Allan, Crystal, Ryan, Clint, Tony, TJ, Chris, Scott, Jon and Kelly; and 23 great-grandchildren.
