Philip (C.P.) Cox

 

pHILIP cOX

WINTER HAVEN - Philip (C.P.) Cox, 90, passed away at his home in Winter Haven on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 of respiratory failure. 

Mr. Cox was born in Coxey, Alabama on April 21, 1919 to Charles Terry Cox and Alma Garner Cox. 

He was predeceased in death by his parents, his first wife Dorothy Black Cox of Ripley, Alabama, brother Ethan Cox of Miami, FL, brother Charles Cox of Decatur, AL, sister Ada Haney Van Patten of Athens, AL, a niece and a nephew. 

He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Dean Rogers Cox, his son, Stanley Philip (Roberta) Cox, of Winter Haven, daughter Gwendolyn (Nicholas) Cavalancia of Ft. Lauderdale, grandson William E. Bridgett of Wallingford, CT, and granddaughter Pamela Bridgett of Kona, Hawaii, two great grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews. 

Mr. Cox moved to Florida with his family in 1946 and resided in Auburndale for over 40 years before moving to Winter Haven in 1989.  He was a WWII Navy veteran having served in the pacific theatre, was retired from the Independent Life Insurance Co. and was a member of the Central Church of Christ.  He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. 

Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven.  Funeral services will be Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the funeral home chapel. 

Interment will follow at Rolling Hills Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice, or to Central Church of Christ.  Condolences to the family can be sent to:  www.oakridgefuneralcare.com.
