Wayne L. Smith

WINTER HAVEN - Wayne L. Smith died at home of heart failure early Tuesday morning February 23, 2010. 

Born March 6, 1935 in Roanoke, VA, he began his banking career at First National Bank of Harrisonburg, VA. He and his family moved to Winter Haven, FL in 1973 where he was associated with Exchange Bank. After serving as President of NCNB, he returned to Virginia and retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of F&M Bank-Massanutten in Harrisonburg, VA.

Wayne was active in community affairs in both Florida and Virginia. He is a past President of the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce and was a regular visitor of the Lake Region- ­Dundee Rotary Club. He was a member of the F&M Bank-Massanutten Board of Directors and a member of the BB&T Rockingham County Local Advisory Board.

Known for his witty personality, Wayne was also an accomplished artist and loved to paint local scenes. One of his favorite pastimes was motoring through the country roads of the Shenandoah Valley in his red Fiat.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Offutt Smith, his son Stephen Wayne Smith, his daughter Stacey Anne Smith and his grandson Christopher Smith Tofanelli.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00pm till 7:00pm, Friday, February 26, 2010 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Virginia.
