LTC. Jack R. Shields, USA (Ret.)

Jack Shields

AUBURNDALE, FLORIDA - LTC. Jack R. Shields, USA (Ret.) of Auburndale, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Hospice Residents Center from respiratory failure.   He was 86. 

A native of Chicago, IL, born February 23, 1924, Jack moved here 18 years ago from Illinois.  He enlisted in the Air Force, and retired from the US Army after serving 28 years as a pilot, which included service in World War II, and two tours in Vietnam.  Jack graduated from Stanford University, MS Northwestern University, and the United States International University.  After receiving his doctorate, he was a psychologist until retirement.  Jack was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the American Legion Post #8, and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by one son.  He is survived by his wife:  Norma L. Shields; two daughters; and a adopted daughter:  Evelyn Belanger of Auburndale.

Visitation will be Monday, April 19, 2010 from 9 to 10 AM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Winter Haven.  Funeral services will follow at 10 AM from the funeral home chapel. 

Interment will be 2 PM Monday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with full military honors. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to good Shepherd Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
