WINTER HAVEN -John Dorman Rice, 87, of Winter Haven died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Dove Healthcare Center in Lake Wales due to Heart Failure.

Born June 11, 1922 in Toledo, Ohio he moved to Winter Haven in 1986 from Metamora, OH.  He was retired as a State Supervisor from the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, was a Staff-Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Winter Haven.

Preceded in death by a son, John D. Rice, Jr. in 1985, he is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Mary Thompson Rice; a son, Thomas Scott Rice and his wife, Peggy of Winter Haven; 5 grandchildren, Holly Rice Feliciano, Thomas Scott Rice, Jr., Christy Rice Bray, Kristen Stewart and Dana Stewart; and 5 great-grandchildren. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00pm, Friday, April 23, 2010 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1800 Cypress Gardens Blvd., Winter Haven.  In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL  33823.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.oakridgefuneralcare.com.
