Betty Ashton Barrett 

    Elizabeth Barrett 

DAVENPORT - Betty Ashton Barrett, age 71 of Davenport, Fl. passed away Wednesday (9/2/09) at the Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center Haines City from heart failure. 

She was born July 9, 1938 in Niagara Falls,  NY.  where she graduated  in 1956 from LaSalle High School. She attended Erie County Technical Institute in Buffalo, NY. and was a registered dental hygienist, practicing in Indiana and New York for many years before retiring with her husband, Tony and moving to Davenport Florida in 1997.   

As the mother of two sons, Betty was a Cub Scout den mother and was awarded a Life membership in PTA.  She also was an active volunteer, having served as an officer in many organizations, Friends of the Library, American Red Cross, Grand Island Historical Society and The River Lea Quilters Guild.  She was a member of the American Penwomen and lent her writing skills to many organizations as well as being published in various newspapers and magazines. She was a co-commissioner of the Clan Gunn Society of North America and helped host clan tents in New England, New York, Alaska, and Florida. 

 In Florida she was a active member of the High Vista Community where she lived and was a founding member of the High Vista Quilters and led water aerobics.  

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Tony Barrett , 

Sons, William (Diana) Barrett of Marietta, Ga.  

Thomas (Denise ) Barrett of Anchorage, Alaska;  

Four Grandchildren Robert Barrett of Atlanta, Ga. Allison Barrett, Megan Barrett, Wyatt Barrett of Anchorage, Alaska;  

Sister Claudia McNulty of  Ortonville, Mi;

Brother Robert Ashton of Hull, Ma.  

Memorial services will be 3:00 PM. Monday (9/7/09) at the Club house at High Vista at Ridgewood Lakes, Davenport, Florida

It is requested that in lieu of flowers a donations in Betty’s name be made to Doctors Without Borders, P. O. Box 5023, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5023
