Winter Haven - Eugene Nelson Thompson, 73, of Winter Haven, FL, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, in Tijuana, MX, due to pneumonia, while there receiving treatments for cancer.

Born Sept. 29, 1936, in Lyons, GA, he moved here as a child, and was a lifelong resident of the area.  He was a retired Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, and served as a missionary in the Ukraine.  Eugene was a member of the Faith Holiness Church in Dundee, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. 

Preceded in death by his parents, James E., Sr. and Emma L. (Smith) Thompson, and a brother, James E. Thompson, Jr.  He is survived by a son, Tim Thompson of Largo, FL; a daughter, Gina Li Callender of Dothan, AL; a brother, Wilburn Thompson of Dundee, FL; a sister, Wanda LeRoy of Cleveland, TN; and five grandchildren, McKenzie, Coleton, Asher, Kheyl and Tilon.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm till 8:00pm, Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Boulevard, NW, Winter Haven.  Funeral Services will be at 10:00am, Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at the Village Church of God, 6 Coleman Road, Winter Haven.  Interment will follow at Rolling Hills Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Faith Missions, P.O.
