HAINES CITY, FLORIDA - H. Haywood Johnson of Haines City, Florida, died April 27, 2009, in Haines City, Florida. He was 81.
Haywood was born November 5, 1927 to Martin L. Johnson and Bettie Pitts Johnson in Chipley, Florida and moved to Haines City in 1975 from there. He retired as a supervisor after 42 years with the Department of Transportation, and he served in the United States Navy during WW II from 1944 - 1947. Haywood attended First Baptist Church of Davenport and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 34, V.F.W. Post 1400, Elks Club, Winter Haven Lodge 1672, Moose Club Haines City # 2083 and general assembly IL lodge 3000, and he was also a member of the Republican Presidential Task Force. After retirement Haywood's time was filled with fishing and more recently motorcycling.
He is survived by his wife of two years, Sharon "Phrog" Johnson of Haines City; step-daughter, Sheryl Bright; mother in law, Mary Odom; sisters in law, Vera and Patty; brother in law, David Skinner; best friends, Howard Mannis, Cindy and Ken Masshart, Grace Delate, Ron and Linda Foss and Ron Jackson.
Visitation will be Monday, May 4, 2009, from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City, Florida with Pastor Charles Harkala, Grace Community Church Officiating. Final resting place will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Haines City, Florida.
