Arthur C. Hall, Jr.

WINTER HAVEN - Arthur C. Hall, Jr., formerly of West Chester, died in Winter Haven, Florida, Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at age 83.   He was born on October 10, 1925, in Marshallton, Chester County, to the late Grace E. Bard and Arthur C. Hall, Sr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Susan Ross Hall.

Upon graduation from West Chester High School, he volunteered for the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. 

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he served for 13 years as the Youth Director of the West Chester YMCA, where he taught literally thousands of Chester County youth to swim. He later served on the YMCA Board of Directors.

He went into the insurance and real estate business and in 1966, he began his own insurance agency, Arthur C. Hall, Inc. He sold the firm in 1986.  Arthur Hall Insurance continues today as one of the largest insurance agencies in Chester County.

After retiring, he first moved with his wife to Cape May, New Jersey, and then to Winter Haven, Florida, where his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with family and friends.

 

Besides his wife, he is survived by his two children, Joyce Hall Mellinger, of Reisterstown, Maryland and Arthur C. Hall III of Rocky River, Ohio; six grandchildren; and a brother, John L. Hall of West Chester.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Jeanette Jamison and Evelyn Schuck; and brothers, Cecil E. Hall and Francis A. Hall.                        

Among his civic activities, Mr. Hall was a long-time member and former Elder, Deacon, and Trustee of The First Presbyterian Church in West Chester, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Local No. 322, and served as a Republican Party Committeeman for West Goshen Township.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at noon at The First Presbyterian Church of West Chester, 130 West Miner Street.
