Winter Haven, FL -  Mr. Sam P. Barnes, formerly of Rutland, Vermont, age 64, died
March 6th, 2009. after a long battle with lung cancer, while at home surrounded
by his loving family. 

Born in Rutland, VT, on Nov. 4, 1944, he came to Winter Haven, FL, after
retiring from GE in 2005. 

Mr. Barnes was predeceased by his parents, Howard P. and Katherine C.  Barnes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, of 16 years; his sons Sam Wesley
Barnes-Hurst and wife, Dahlia of TX; Keith Howard Barnes and his wife, Angie of
FL; and his daughters, Roxanna P. Borkes and husband Frank; and Tina Ann Nairn,
both of TX; his brother, Bill Barnes and wife, Theresa (Ann) of Pittsford; and
his sister, Peggy Doty and husband, Clayton of Rutland.

He attended Rutland schools and joined the Navy in 1961 serving in Vietnam. 
He was on the Board of Directors with Heritage Family Credit Union for 12 years.
 He was a member of American Legion Post 31 or Rutland and Post 8 in FL; and the
Loyal Order of Moose  Lodge in both Rutland and Winter Haven.  His passions were
fishing, hunting and golf with friends and family. 

There will be no calling hours.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday,  Mar. 11 at 10 a.m.  at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven, FL.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer
Society c/o the Oak Ridge Funeral Care.
