WINTER HAVEN - John W. Dicks, 85, of Winter Haven died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Consulate Health Care due to cancer.

Born February 5, 1924 to Lucas Leon and Maggie Elizabeth Glover Dicks in Tarpon Springs, FL he moved to the area 33 years ago from Mulberry.   He was a mechanic and welder for U.S. Steel and of the Baptist Faith. 

Preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers John W. Dicks, Clarence Lee and Jimmie Lee  & 2 sister, Margaret Lee and  Irene Miller; he is survived by: a son, John Walter Dicks of  Lakeland;, 3 daughters, Carolyn S. Kelley of Lakeland , Wanda Joan Mincey  of Winter Haven and Phyllis Marie Frost of Winter Haven; 3 brothers, Alvin Lee , Denver Lee  and Lonnie Lee  all of Plant City; 3 sisters, Georgia "Joy" Powell of Plant City, Verna Rae Lee of Plant City and Bonnie Lee McCollough of Brooksville, FL ; 6 grandchildren;  and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am till 12:30pm, Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven.  Graveside Services will follow at 1:00pm in Rolling Hills Cemetery with Pastor Charles Harkala officiating.   Condolences may be sent to the family at www.oakridgefuneralcare.com.
