Windell Teague

WINTER HAVEN - Windell Leo Teague, 67 of Winter Haven died at home Tuesday, July 21, 2009 of liver failure. 

Born October 26, 1941 in Hornsby, TN to the late Acie and Mary Lee Teague.  Grew up in McNairy County, TN prior to moving to Dundee, FL in 1955.  Graduated from Haines City High School where he played baseball.  Batted .354 in 1960 setting the single season record that stood for many years.  Windell worked at Pete Hall’s Shell Service Station on Hwy 27 for several years prior to entering the Air Force in May 1961.  He was stationed at Dover, DE for the majority of his service time.  He received correspondence from the training union secretary at Dundee Baptist Church who kept in touch with young people that left for service or college.  He responded to one of those letters asking for a date.  While on leave in 1962, he began dating that secretary, Ms. Sandra Bryant.  They continued to correspond and date while he served honorably until discharge as an Airman First Class in March 1965.  Windell and Sandra were married May 14, 1965 at Dundee Baptist Church and resided in Winter Haven, FL.  His first job after service was at Ace Hardware before going to work for Exchange Bank where he worked his way up to Installment Loan Officer.  From there he joined Andrew’s Oldsmobile Nissan as Finance Manager.  Later he served as a Vice President for Haven Federal Savings and Loan before retirement.  He attended Polk Community College for continuing education in financial services.  Windell was active in the community working with the Sertoma Club, serving on baseball, basketball, and football little league boards.  He coached little league baseball and basketball.  Additionally, he served as band booster treasurer at WHHS.  Windell was a longtime Florida Gator booster and fan.  Interests included hunting, fishing, golf, reading and a good western.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends most of all.  A lifelong democrat that loved debating with his republican friends. 

Survived by immediate family Sandra B. Teague, Winter Haven, FL, Alan H. Teague (Darlene) of Kennesaw, GA, Amy Granger (Dr. Steven) of Lakeland, FL and grandchildren Danielle, Joshua, Kelly, and Cody as well as a much loved extended family and friends.  Windell was preceded in death by Acie Teague (Father), Mary Lee Teague Summerow (Mother) and Betty Teague Collins (Sister).   

 

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday July 24, 2009.  Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009.  Both services will be held at Oakridge Funeral Care 2425 W.
