WINTER HAVEN - Gary L. Ullom, age 70, died on January 16, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV after a sudden illness. Gary was born in Parkersburg, WV on August 7, 1938. He was in the Air Force from 1957 to 1961 and served in the Belgian Congo Crisis. He and his family moved to Winter Haven in 1966. Gary had a lengthy career as a banker, first with Exchange Bank and then as President of First Sterling Bank, both in Winter Haven. He attended Louisiana State University School of Banking and received certification. After retirement from banking he opened We Cash Checks and Pawn in Dundee, which he operated for several years. A life member of the National Skeet Association and Winter Haven Skeet and Trap club, he was an avid skeet shooter and in his life won several championships. He was a member of the Moose Club, a past member of the Optimist Club and Lake Region Yacht and Country Club. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Ullom and Nora Wolfe Ullom Crandall, as well as three sisters and a brother. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gretta, three children: Jana Giddings and husband Wayne, Mike Ullom and wife Laurie, and Kara Ullom and grandchildren, Rachael, Hannah, Matt and Lindsay, also his nephew, Paul Ullom, of Tampa, and his family. Gary was a loving and generous, son, husband, father and grandfather and will missed by his family and friends. Memorial services will be Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Oakridge Funeral Care, 2425 W. Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven, Fl 33881.
