AUBURNDALE - Arthur Merrill McCoy was born December 1, 1920 at Hillsboro, IN to Garnet “Bud” McCoy and Ada Keppt McCoy and died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at home due to cancer.
“Merrill” graduated from Crawfordsville, IN High School in 1939. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WWII, as a M/Sgt overseas in Africa, Italy and Greece with the 338th Engineers. Regt.
After returning from service in the U.S. Army, he married Mildred Swank on Jan. 19, 1946 at the First Nazarene Church in Crawfordsville, IN, and returned to his job as a pressman for R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Crawfordsville where he worked for 18 years. In 1969 they moved to Winter Haven, FL where they retired. During his retirement, Merrill did a lot of electrical work in the Winter Haven area.
Merrill and his wife were very active in church work, and had attended the Winter Haven Church of the Nazarene for many years, until health problems curtailed active participation. He always loved music and was a member of a male quartet in his younger years.
Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Mildred: a brother, Fred McCoy; 2 sisters, Ruth Lucas of KY and Elizabeth Dodge of Ohio; several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends, including the Good Shepherd Hospice Team of Auburndale, FL and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am till 11:00am, Sat. February 21, 2009 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd. Winter Haven.
