Glenn Stanley

 

HAINES CITY - Glenn F. Stanley, 78, of Haines City passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Palm Terrace Hospice due to cancer.

He was born in Struthers, Ohio to Grady and Ethel Stanley and on November 6, 1950 he married Jean Hilty, who has been his loving wife ever since. Glenn was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1948 to1949, and he was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he had served as an Elder and as a member of the Diaconate. Glenn's hobbies included traveling, woodworking, painting and raising flowers, especially orchids.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Patricia Stanley of Tampa; his son, Robert (Laura) of Lakeland; granddaughters, Melissa (Chris) Gilbreth of Shreveport, LA, and Janelle (Jimmy) Hinson of Columbia, SC; 2 great grandchildren, Emmalyn Gilbreth and William Hinson; brothers Gordon (Mary) Stanley and John (Marti); and many nieces.

His parents and sisters, Mary Shafer and Mamie Banks, predeceased him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the First Christian Church in Haines City, on March 7, 2009 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be given to the First Christian Church 704 S. 14th Street Haines City or Good Shepherd Hospice 115 S. Missouri, suite 500, Lakeland, FL 33851.
