WINTER HAVEN - Dowell Bishop King, 85, passed away at Consulate Health Care of Winter Haven from complications due to Parkinson’s.
He was born Nov 3rd, 1923 in Lecanto, Florida to William H. King and Bessie Olliff King. He graduated from Crystal River High school in 1941. He joined the Army shortly thereafter and spent the next twenty years of his life in the service, serving two tours of duty in Korea. After retiring from the Army, he spent twenty three years in the insurance business, followed by several years of part time work with Scottys. While living in Panama, he became interested in sea shells and eventually put together a collection from all over the world. D.B. was an active member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ, serving wherever and whenever he was needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mildred Summers. He is survived by his wife of fifty nine years, Barbara Clendenning King; one son, Darrell and a daughter-in-law Ruth, granddaughters Elizabeth and Allyson King, all of Jacksonville; three sisters, Frieda Wilson of Homosassa, Mary Kuckenbaker of Ocala, and Wilma Elmore of Ocala, and ten nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be at 2 P.M. Sunday afternoon at Oak Ridge Funeral Care of Winter Haven. Services will follow at 3 P.M. Memorial donations may be made to Children’s Home and Bible School, 301 West 13th Ave, Mt. Dora, Florida, 32757. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville on Tuesday, Feb 17th.
