WINTER HAVEN - Mary Rogers Carroll Daniel, 81, of Winter Haven, FL died Sunday, Dec. 20,2009 at her residence due to cancer.
Born April 6, 1928 in Lake Wales, FL to Henry and Mary Langford Rogers, she grew up in Winter Haven, graduating from Winter Haven High School in 1946. In 1951 she and her husband Hershell Carroll moved to Atlanta, GA, where she lived until 2007 when she returned to Winter Haven. A cum laude graduate from Georgia State University with a B.A degree in 1962 and a M.A. degree in 1968, Mary taught social studies at Russell High School, taught and served as head of the social studies department at Campbell High School and later at Westwood High School, retiring in 1988. She was a longtime member of the East Point Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and attended the Winter Haven Church of God since her return to Winter Haven. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and served as an officer for the Delta Kappa Gamma and as an officer for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Preceded in death by three husbands, Hershell Carroll, Jim Bridges and Richard Daniel, she is survived by: a son, Charles G. Carroll; a daughter, Anita Cunningham; four grandchildren, Jennifer Carroll Vandell, Gabriel Carroll, Brian Cunningham and Lauren Cunningham Essis; and 6 great-grandchildren, Ryan Carroll, Reese Vandell, Pierce Vandell, Juliana Essis, Frankie Essis and Michael Essis. Preceded in death by one sister, she is survived by three sisters, Betty Gilmore, Mildred Thomas and Laurel Lamb; and two brothers, Flavius Rogers and James Rogers.
The family will receive friends from 1:30pm till 3:00pm, Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm in the Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, GA.
