Charles Benton Miller

Charles B Miller

HAINES CITY - Charles Benton Miller of Haines City, FL, passed away at home Sunday, May 4, 2008 from heart failure.  He was 77 years old. 

A native of Detroit, MI, born May 23, 1930, Charles moved here in 1984 from Clarkston, MI.  He was the owner of State Oxygen Services and Miller’s Lanai and Patio Furniture.  Charles was a veteran of the US Air Force during World War II, and the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He also was a board member and past president of the American Heart Association; served on the Polk County Economic Development Council; the East Polk Committee of 100; the Board of Directors for the Florida Association of Medical Equipment Dealers; life member of the Royal Oak (MI) Masonic Lodge #464; the Chevrolet Legion of Leaders Advisory Council for Chevrolet retail sales; He was a Gideon; and attended Winter Haven Baptist Temple.  Charles was past President of the Lake Alfred Chamber of Commerce and was also selected as man of the year in Lake Alfred in 1992. 

He was preceded in death by his son:  Charles Mathew Miller.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years:  Elizabeth A. Miller; his son:  Craig (Mary) Miller of Lakeland, FL; daughters:  Charlotte (Tim) Bussell of Lakeland, Carolynn (Leroy) Miller of Winter Haven, Colleen Foster of Lake Alfred; a brother:  Billy (Janie) Miller of Winter Haven; and a sister:  Carrie (Paul) Stewart of Springfield, TN.  Charles also had 15 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven.  Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday from the funeral chapel, with Dr. Charles Kirby of the Lake Gibson Nazarene Church officiating. Interment will follow at Rolling Hills Cemetery in Winter Haven.
