WINTER HAVEN - Alexander Osteika, 87, of Winter Haven, FL died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at his residence due to cancer.
Born January 15, 1921 in Mazekei, Lithuania, he immigrated to Michigan in 1949 from Germany. He moved to Winter Haven in 2004 from Livonia Michigan where he worked for Ford Motor Company as a Tool and Die Leader. He was a very avid sportsman and played for the Lithuanian National Soccer Team. He attended college in Lithuania where he trained to be a veterinarian, before moving to Germany, where he was a practicing veterinarian.
Alexander is survived by his wife, Emilia Osteika; three daughters, Rita Kushlak of Livonia, MI, Loretta Sanders of Winter Haven, FL and Christine Haskin of Rochester, MI; a brother, Anthony Osteika of Warren, MI; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm till 7:00pm and a Rosary Service will be held at 7:00pm, Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Boulevard, NW, Winter Haven, FL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 6, 2008 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1991 Overlook Drive, Winter Haven, FL 33884. Interment will be at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, MI. The family has asked that Memorials be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2590 Havendale Boulevard, NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881.
