Gordon Smith

EAGLE LAKE - Gordon Miles Smith , 70, of Eagle Lake, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Hospice Residents Center in Auburndale, FL due to cancer.

  Born August 2, 1937 in Georgia, he moved to the area 54 years ago from Claxton, GA.  He was retired from FMC Corporation where he was a Lead Installation Manager.  He was a member of the Wahnita Church of God and loved to fish.

 Preceded in death by his father, Miles Smith, he is survived by: his wife of 51 years, Jo Ann Smith; his mother, Lucy Smith of Wahneta; 2 sons, Phillip Smith and his wife Pam of Winter Haven and Eddie Smith and his wife Betsy of Harpers Ferry, WV; 3 brothers, Gene A. Smith and his wife Margaret of Wahneta, Irving P. Smith and his wife Marion of Bartow and Jesse D. Smith and his wife Bobbi of Wahneta; 2 sisters, Lavonne McCrum and her husband Paul of Eagle Lake and Helen M. Trowell and her husband Jim of Brooker, FL; 8 grandchildren, Michelle M. Johnson and her husband Scott, Joseph B. Smith and his wife Layla, Bryan E. Smith, Allison R. Smith, Melissa Grimmett and her husband Cary, Tara Berti, Heather Borgett and Chris Whittington; and 9 great-grandchildren including one unborn.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm will 8:00pm, Monday, Jan. 7, 2008 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., NW, Winter Haven.  Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 in the Wahneta Church of God with Rev. Ken Music officiating.  Interment will follow at the Church of Christ Cemetery in Eagle Lake.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.oakridgefuneralcare.com.
