Lona P. Lucas

 Lona Lucas   

DAVENPORT - Lona P. Lucas, 89, went to be with her Lord on December 17, 2008.

Born to the late Lula A. Fortney and Emmett E. Pyle in Austin, West Virginia on March 1, 1919, she was the last surviving of four children.

Lona and her husband Luther bought a farm in Hartley, Delaware in the late '40s and in addition to farming, raised chickens commercially. She went to cosmetology school in the '60s and opened a beauty shop at home until her retirement in 1977 when they moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement years in the sunshine state.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Luther C. Lucas, Sr. on December 13, 2008. She is survived by a son and his wife, Luther Chapman, Jr. and Patricia Dover, DE, and her loving devoted daughter, Dale Hurley and husband Dave, of Winter Haven, FL. In addition, she is survived by three grandchildren, Gary Lucas and wife Cristy of Norman, OK, Kim Hurley of Auburndale, FL, and her special granddaughter Robin Hurley of Hartley, DE, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great granddaughters.

Lona enjoyed gardening, canning, bowling, sewing and helping with church activities for many years in Delaware. After retirement, she and Luther began traveling. She will be remembered for her love, kindness and devotion to family, and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on December 18, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, Florida.
