DAVENPORT - Grace Rewis Woodrum, 92 of Davenport, Fl, died peacefully Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Hospice Resident Center in Auburndale.
Born to Rosa B Cromartie Rewis and William Lamar Rewis, August 15, 1916 in Newport News, Virginia. Upon returning to Florida as a young child, she grew up in Polk County with her Parents and two brothers, Vance and Grady. Surrounded by many family and close friends they spent many hours enjoying the natural habitat of old Florida on Lake St. Charles, near Davenport. She graduated from Haines City High School. Grace joined the Davenport Methodist Church in 1927 and has been a faithful member there for over 80 years. After marring Cecil Monroe Woodrum, they traveled the United States purchasing run down ranches and restoring them to large profitable business ventures. It was often said she was not a good cook she was a “Great Cook”. While living near Ocala National Forest, She never knew how many she would have for breakfast as her homemade biscuits which were cooked on a wood stove and her specialty, drew many takers. She was a good Samaritan to any and all in need who passed Her way. After Her husbands declining health prohibited him from driving, they traveled the western United States visiting all the National Parks and places he had always wanted to see.
Preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Daughter, Cecilia Grace and Brother William Vance Rewis, She is survived by her Brother, Grady Lewis Rewis and his wife Winifred Mc Allister Rewis, Davenport. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Grace will always be remembered as someone who never met a stranger and loved each and every one.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday (Aug. 28, 2008) at Shingle Creek Cemetery, on the Old Vineland Road, in Kissimmee, Fl.
