Joyce E. Wallace

 

DAVENPORT - Mrs. Joyce E. Wallace, 76, went to be with the  Lord August 6, 2008 from complications caused by Alzheimer's Disease.

 

Joyce was born December 22,1931 in Berrien County, Michigan and graduated from Benton Harbor, MI High School in 1950 where she was honored with the DAR good citizen award.

After many years as a homemaker, she worked as an administrative assistant in the Portage office of Englehard Minerals and Chemicals until the office was closed in 1987. Her working career ended in 1994 with her retirement from the Patent Law firm of Gordon Huischen.

Joyce was a long time member of Portage First United Methodist Church where she sang in the Chancel Choir. After moving to Lakeland, she attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Winter Haven, also singing in the Choir. Loving to sing, she also sang with the mixed chorus from Schalamar Creek Golf and Country Club.

 

Preceding her in death was her father Harry Zuhl, mother Vesta Zuhl Johnson and brother Richard Zuhl. She is survived by her husband, of 37 years, Duane; two children, Tim (Angie) Michael of Horse Cave, KY and Cheryl Phillips of N. Ft Myers FL; Two step children, Tanya Wallace of Davenport FL and Steve Wallace of Portage MI; Seven grandchildren; and 5 great grand children.

A celebration of life will be held 1:00pm, Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd. in Winter Haven with Pastor Nora Rameriz officiating. Another celebration will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church in Portage, Michigan.
