PLATTSBURGH, NY — Josie A. Darrah, 73, of Irish Settlement Road, Plattsburgh, passed away at the home of her daughter in Davenport, Fla., on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007. She was born in Ellenburg on Oct. 8, 1933, daughter of the late Alex and Clara L. (Grenier) Carter.
Josie was the owner and operator of Darrah's Western Auto on the Irish Settlement Road; she owned and rented apartments from 1978 to 1996. She was an avid bowler and she enjoyed pool. Josie enjoyed the get-togethers at her home and camp with her friends and family. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh.
Josie is survived by three children, Susan L. Rock and her husband Gary "Grub" of Plattsburgh, Kathleen Butchino and her husband Elder "Butch" Butchino of Daven Port, Fla., Jack J. "Ernie" Darrah and his wife Alison of Plattsburgh; a stepson, Bruce Darrah of Plattsburgh; seven grandchildren, Jamey, Julie and Jessica Rock, Kylee and Joel Butchino, Brock and Jacklyn Darrah; a sister, Florence Malark and her husband Harry of Plattsburgh; a brother, Lee Carter and his wife Gladys of Ellenburg; a loving nephew, Robert Wallace and his wife Jolene and their daughter Janene of California; and several other nieces and nephews.
Josie was predeceased by her husband, Harold Darrah, on Sept. 21, 2003; her parents, Alex and Clara Carter; her siblings, Irene, Thomas, Carl and Laura.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 6, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at 9 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
