WINTER HAVEN - Vivian Whitfield Adkins, age 74, of Winter Haven, FL, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at her residence due to respiratory failure.
Vivian was born in Ty Ty, GA December 4, 1932. She was teaching school in Sylvester, GA when she married Herb Adkins in 1953. After living in OH and WV for several years, the family moved to Winter Haven in 1964. She taught kindergarten for several years at Havendale Baptist Church. In 1973 the family moved to Jamaica, together Herb and Vivian built and operated several Christian schools on the Island and continued to serve as missionaries there for 25 years. After retirement, Herb and Vivian moved back to Winter Haven in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb in June, 2006.
She is survived by: her son, Jim Adkins of Palm Coast, FL; three daughters, Vicki A. Lynn of Winter Haven, FL., Kathy White of Auburn, AL and Nancy Adkins of Ocala, FL.; two brothers, Dana Whitfield of Lockeford, CA and Ted Whitfield of High Springs, FL ; five sisters, Bettye Davis of Brandon, FL, Sue McDowell of The Villages, FL, Nola Andrews of Jacksonville, FL, Toni Newell of Chula, GA and Lynn Cooper of Moultrie, GA; four grandsons; four granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 West Havendale Boulevard, Winter Haven, FL. Funeral services will be held at Oak Ridge Funeral Care at 10:00 AM Friday, January 12, 2007 with Rev. Bill Pentecost officiating . Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Community Pregnancy Center, 235 E Central Ave, Winter Haven, FL 33880.
