HAINES CITY -- Mr. Carl Bradley of Haines City drove a truck in the Army during the Korean War and went on to be a driver for many years with L. Dicks Inc. in Dundee.
Mr. Bradley died Saturday (Aug. 5, 2006) in Auburndale from complications of a stroke. He was 77.
Born Feb. 20, 1929, in Enville, Tenn., Mr. Bradley moved to Haines City from Holland, Mo., in 1957. He began driving trucks when he was a teenager and did jobs few agreed to do.
While serving in Korea, Mr. Bradley drove trucks to deliver ammunition, often through muddy fields. His sergeant said that he knew a Missouri boy was used to the muddy fields, said Mr. Bradley's daughter, Judith DeVille.
"It's just something that needed to be done, and he did it," DeVille said. "He was very proud to be in the Army."
Deville said that her father loved riding all-terrain vehicles, NASCAR racing and his American husky, Ghost, who was his constant companion.
"He was the best dad that anyone could ever ask for," she said.
Mr. Bradley was an enthusiastic member of the Auburndale Life Church. He would tell people what church he attended and would go on to say, "and you would love that church," said his wife, Carolyn Bradley.
"He was a great man," said Mrs. Bradley.
Mr. Bradley is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bradley; son, Christopher Carl Bradley Sr., Hiawassee, Ga.; daughter, Judith DeVille, Zephyrhills; sisters, Geneva Rollins and Louise Whitehead, Holland, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823.
