Charles Mitchell

 

WINTER HAVEN - Charles E. Mitchell, 85, of Winter Haven, died, Tuesday. Sept. 4, 2007 at Life Care Center Nursing Home due to Heart Failure.                   

Born October 31, 1921 to Clifford and Carrie Kent Mitchell in Lake Village, Arkansas he moved to Winter Haven in 1925.  Charles was the first band captain at Winter Haven High School for 1940, 1941, and 1942.  He was a member of Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church and was  the top blood donor at the Winter Haven Blood Bank.  He was the owner of Mitchell Feed and Garden Supply in Winter Haven for over 30 years; was a local citrus grower and a cattleman; was a charter member of the Winter Haven Rotary Club; was a member of Winter Haven Lodge # 1672 B.P.O.E.; and was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII.   

 Preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John K Mitchell and a sister, Pauline Cecil, Charles is survived by: his wife, Helen S. Mitchell; 2 sons, D. Rick Mitchell of Bristol, VA and Joe R. Mitchell of Victoria, TX; a daughter, Emily Lynn Carter of Cumming, GA; a sister, Beulah Culberson of Gainesville, FL; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm till 7:00pm, Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven.  Funeral Services will be held in the Oak Ridge Funeral Care Chapel  at 10:00am on Thursday with Dr. Robert Hornbeck and Rev. Meredith McMillan officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeside Memorial Park.
