HAINES CITY, Fla. - Samuel A. Houser Jr., 79, formerly of Hampton, Va., went to be with our Lord on Sept. 1, 2007.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 57 years, Marjorie N. Houser; three children, Linda Staton and Stewart of Haines City, Fla., Mike Houser and Sue of Newport News, Va., and Terry Hollomon and Don of Hampton, Va.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren along with a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel A. and Rosebud Houser, a brother, James Edgar Houser.
He was a proud 1945 graduate of Hampton High School and supported the 'Crabbers' his entire life. Sam is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. In 1953, he joined the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., where he retired as the CIP Coordinator of the X-11 Shipfitters Department after 40 years of service. For 25 years, Sam was a talented Square Dance and Round Dance instructor with many friends from the Merry Mixers and Twinklers.
After retiring Sam and Marge moved to Haines City, Fla., where he was an active board member and news letter editor of the Lake Hammock Village Retirement Community.
A memorial service will be held in Haines City, Fla., on Monday, Sept. 3.
