Ralph Jones

DAVENPORT - Ralph Vincent  Jones, Esq.  Age 83 of Davenport, Florida passed away Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2007) at the Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven, Florida. He was born on July 1, 1924 the son of Willie and Alma (LeClaire) Jones in Jacksonville, Florida and had moved to Davenport, Fl. in 2007 from Hatters Island, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School, Jacksonville.  After High School he had worked for Winn-Dixie as a billing machine operator before entering the Army on March 6th 1943 and reporting to Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Little Rock, Ark. In  Aug.  of 1943 he attended with the Army Specialized Training Unit #3890,  North Texas State Teacher’s College, Denton, Texas. From June to October 1944 he was with the 97th. Infantry Company C 303 Regiment 1st. Battalion in San Luis Obispo, California and moved with them to Fort Lenardwood, Missouri. and in October he was assigned to Fifth Company, Third Student Training Regiment at Fort Benning, Ga.   On March 18, 1945 he received an Honorable Discharge only to be commissioned in Active Duty to attend OCSs at Fort. Benning,  Ga.  During his career in the Army he received the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and several Lapel Buttons. He received his certificate of 1st. Lt.  And was discharges because of an explosion that left him with blindness and partial hearing.  This did not stop him as he left the army and attended the University of Pennsylvania Law and passed his bar exam for D.C. and when he retired he was the legal counsel for the U. S. Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Davenport, Fla. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marlene to whom he was married 49 years.

Robert “Bobby” Jones of Keystone Heights, Florida

Sister; Bette Ann McVey of St. Augustine, Fl.

 Visitation will be from 10:00 AM. Friday till services at 11:00 AM, First Baptist Church 102 W. Maple St.  Davenport, Fl.

 Graveside services will be 2:00 PM. Monday (Nov. 5,2007) Evergreen Cemetery 4535 N. Main St. Jacksonville, Fl.
