Carl Louis Johanntges

Carl Johanntges


Haines City, Florida - Carl Louis Johanntges of  Haines City, died July 23, 2007 at Haines City Health Care in Haines City, Florida.  He was 83.
Born on October 3, 1923, in Nyack, New York to Karl Johanntges and Helen Krychear Johanntges, he was raised and lived in New Jersey until 1968.  He lived in Stonybrook, Long Island, New York until 1971.  He moved to Clearwater, Florida until 1975, then moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada before returning to Florida in 1990.  A veteran of WWII, he served in the Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946, as a Drill Instructor and Gunnery Sergeant in the South China Sea, Phillipines, Saipan and Okinawa.  He was Honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1946 but stayed in the Marine Corps reserve until 1951.  He worked as a  medical equipment import/export manager for Melco in New Jersey from 1943 - 1967, and from 1968 - 1971 at a Long Island, New York  company.  He worked at Coastal Medical Oxygen in Florida from 1971 - 1975. He was a member of the Rotary for 16 years in Calgary and was past Rotarian President and a 2 time Paul Harris fellow.  He retired from Respiratory Products, Calgary in 1990.  He was a member  of St. Ann Catholic Church. 
 
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Johanntges and is survived by sons; Stephen Johanntges of Haines City, Carl Johanntges and wife Barbara of Shirley, Long Island, New York, Geoffrey Johanntges and wife Janet of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Russell Johanntges and wife Kathy of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; grandchildren, Lori, Joseph, Michael, Michael Beale, Matthew, Brandy, Paula, Darren, Jacob, Zachery and Michaela; great grandchildren, Andrea, Kevin, Abbie, Alexander, James Carl and Grace Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 30, 2007 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida with Father Francis Ferrara, St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Bushnell, Florida officiating.
