Sarah Ann (Long) Harris

Sarah Ann (Long) Harris won her battle with cancer Monday morning, November 20, at her home in Winter Haven, FL. She was 70. All of her brothers and sisters as well as many other family members and friends were able to say their goodbyes. Her children were by her side at the end.

Ann was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Alfred and active in the youth ministry program. She was a member of the Cypresswood Women’s Golf Association and Ladies Club Champion in 2003. She was known for hitting her irons longer than many of the men.

She was born in Gum Branch, GA and has lived all around the United States as well as outside the U.S. Ann traveled extensively with family and friends in her later years, playing golf in a number of states. She loved to decorate her home and delighted in spending time with those dear to her heart.

Ann is preceded in death by her by her husband John R. Harris and her parents Charles Newton and Lila Kate Long. She is survived by her three children: Rhett Harris of Baton Rouge, LA, Rex Harris of Lake Alfred, FL, Joan Heintz of Moore, SC; six, soon to be, seven grandchildren: Chelsea, Ryan, Josh, Ian, Grace and Emma. There are also four brothers, five sisters and a plethora of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Friday evening, November 24th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Funeral Home in Winter Haven. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., also at Oak Ridge. Pastor Rocky Branch will be presiding. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Cornerstone Hospice of Haines City, Fl or your local hospice.
