Harry Huntt

HAINES CITY -- Mr. Harry Huntt of Haines City, who managed a propane gas company and was an electrician for Heart of Florida Hospital, died of congestive heart failure Friday (March 24, 2006) in Davenport. He was 82.

Born Jan. 22, 1924, Mr. Huntt was a lifelong resident of Haines City. He began working for the family business, Huntt's Grocery Store, at a young age. His wife, Barbara "Bobbie" Huntt, remembers when they met in high school.

"He had a fantastic sense of humor," she said.

Together they entered local dance contests, sometimes leaving with first-place prizes. "When I met him he was already a pretty good dancer. We'd jitterbug, waltz."

Mr. Huntt managed a propane gas company in Auburndale before taking a job with Heart of Florida at its former location near downtown Haines City. He worked there five years before retiring in 1989.

During his retirement, Mr. Huntt fished and occasionally danced again at Moose Lodge functions.

"He was an easygoing, take-life-easy type of person," his wife said. "We were married for 59 years, that speaks for itself."

Mr. Huntt served in the Navy during World War II.

He attended Shamrock First Baptist Church in Haines City.

Mr. Huntt is survived by his wife, Bobbie Huntt; sons, Andy Huntt, Leesburg, Alan Huntt, Winter Haven, and Phillip Huntt, Polk City; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City. Services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Shamrock First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2661 Marshall Road N., Haines City, FL 33844.
