LAKE WALES -- Mr. Robert W. Sumney Sr. of Lake Wales died of cancer Thursday (June 15, 2006) in Auburndale. He was 71.
Born in Fort Wayne, Ind., on June 7, 1935, he came to Lake Wales from LaGrange, Ind., in 1995. He was a salesman for Heavy Duty Trucks. He was a member of the BPOE No. 1197 of Kendallville, Ind., and the Moose Lodge No. 1351 in LaGrange. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion Post No. 215 in LaGrange. He was a member of the DAV Chapter No. 45 of Indiana. He was a Lutheran.
Mr. Sumney is survived by his daughters, Shelly Sumney Hansen, Churubusco, Ind., Robyn Clark, Wolcotteville, Ind., Stacey Marquis, Fort Wayne; sons, Robert W. Sumney Jr., Denver, N.C., Rob Marquis, Fort Wayne; companion, Sharlene Knowlton, Lake Wales; brothers, Eugene Sumney, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., William Sumney, Angola, Ind.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
