LAKE ALFRED, FL – James Edward Dixon, Sr., of Lake Alfred, FL died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 2, 1938 to James Thomas and Beatrice Shaunessy Dixon in Yonkers, NY, he moved to Lake Alfred from New York City in 1981. Mr. Dixon was retired from the New York City Police Dept. as a Detective, and was also retired from Walt Disney World where he worked as a Security Manager. He was a member of the Honor Legion New York City Police Dept.; the Detective Endowment Assn., the U.S. Naval Institute; the Tin Can Sailors; Fraternal Order of Police; and the Emerald Society; he was also a past member of the B.P.O.E in New York, and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorothy Jean Nichols. He is survived by: his wife of 44 years, Joan L Dixon; three sons, James E. Dixon, Jr. of Orlando, FL, Andrew Dixon of Orlando, FL and Thomas Dixon of Lakeland, FL; a daughter, Joan C. Dixon of Lake Alfred, FL; a brother, Thomas Dixon of Riverdale, NY and Seven Grandchildren. The family will receive from 2:00pm till 5:00pm, Sunday, July 30, 2006 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Boulevard, Winter Haven, FL 33881. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am, Monday, July 31, 2006 in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:00pm in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL with military honors conferred. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., P.O.
