HAINES CITY -- Mrs. Martha Smith of Haines City died of heart failure Tuesday (July 11, 2006) in Winter Haven. She was 81.
Born in Geneva County, Ala., on Sept. 20, 1924, she came to Haines City from Alabama, in 1946. She was a homemaker. She was a Women's Army Corps veteran of World War II. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Haines City.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Smith. She is survived by her son, Terrell Mason Smith, Olive Branch, Miss.; daughters, Macklyn Fairchild, Fair Play, S.C., Tammy Congdon, Haines City; brothers, Robert Newman, Waco, Texas, Charles Newman, Hartford, Ala.; sister, Helen Eflien, Slocum, Ala.; eight grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City.
