George Curren Miller Sr.


LAKE ALFRED -- Mr. George Curren Miller Sr. of Lake Alfred died of lung failure Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2006) in Auburndale. He was 82.

Born in Monroe County, Miss., on April 27, 1923, he came to Lake Alfred from Mississippi in 1943. He was a building contractor and the owner and operator of his own business. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and he served in the Air Force where he was a mechanic of P-51 Mustangs. He was a member of Fin and Feather Bass Club and a lifetime member of Bass Masters. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lake Alfred.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Mary Miller; sons, George C. Miller Jr., Winter Haven, Gene Miller, Lake Alfred; daughters, Libby Chandler, Spartanburg, S.C., Sheril Miller, Miami; brother, Marvin Miller, Augusta, Ga.; sisters, Annie Wilma Sanders, Hamilton, Miss., Frances Burks, Columbus, Miss., Marlyn Lee, Aberdeen, Miss.; four grandchildren; one greatgrandchild.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 W. Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake Alfred.
