HAINES CITY -- Mrs. Verda "Snookie" Johnson of Haines City died of heart failure Sunday (Jan. 1, 2006) at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. She was 80.
Born in Loughman on Dec. 31, 1925, she was a longtime resident of the area. She was a fruit sectionizer for Holly Hill Citrus in Davenport. She also was a cashier for Dollar General in Haines City.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Clyde Johnson; sons, Fred Trim, Lake Wales, Cecil Ellis, Auburndale, Johnny Gaffney, Polk City, Tommy Gaffney, Poinciana, Mike Gaffney, Corpus Christi, Texas, Jake Johnson, Cleveland, Tenn., Bill Johnson, St. Cloud, Guy Johnson, Hardee County, Mark Johnson, Greenville, Tenn., and Jerry Johnson, Lakeland; daughters, Jeanee Davis, Jasper, Ga., Betty Ivey, Auburndale, and Tina Fraizer, Spring City, Tenn.; sisters, Betty Jane Dennis, Hollister, and Eunice Merritt, Palatka; 34 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Ridge Funeral Home Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Kissimmee
