DAVENPORT -- Mr. Lewis Mathews of Davenport died of heart failure Wednesday (April 12, 2006) in Davenport. He was 73.
Born in Davenport on Aug. 26, 1932, he was a lifelong resident. He owned Mathews Aluminum in Davenport. He was a Davenport city councilman for 20 years and was involved in Little League Baseball for 40 years. He also was active with the Polk County Youth Fair. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Mathews is survived by his wife, Bertha Gilley Mathews; daughters, Christie Mathews, Cartersville, Ga., Cindy Linamen, Auburndale, Candi Connelly, Crystal Sears, Chastity Williams, all of Davenport; sister, Marie Pipkins, Haines City; five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 this evening at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Davenport.
