| | Joseph G. Hern WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Joseph G. Hern Sr. of Winter Haven died of heart failure Monday (April 3, 2006) in Winter Haven. He was 86.
Born in North Bergin, N.J., on Sept. 9, 1919, he came to Winter Haven from Largo in 1990. He was a member of the Heavy and General Laborers Union Local No. 472 and Local No. 172 for 50 years. He was a sergeant in the Army and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Haines City.
Mr. Hern was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hern. He is survived by his son, Joseph G. Hern Jr., Tallahassee; daughter, Kathleen Vreeland, Brockport, N.Y.; companion, Marie Bell, Winter Haven; sisters, Helen Puglisi, Middletown, N.J., Marjorie Smith, Tinton Falls, N.J., Rita Puglisi, Keansburg, N.J., Ann Hern, Claire Lanzone, both of Lakewood, N.J., Mary DeMartin, Emerson, N.J.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Services will be held in New Jersey. Burial will be in Brig. Gen. W.C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, N.J. Visitation for Mr. Joseph G. Hern of Winter Haven, who died Monday (April 3, 2006), will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown, N.J. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Catherines RC Church, Bray Avenue, N. Middletown, N.J. Burial will be at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown, N.J.
