| Jeri Barnett Harrell 
WINTER HAVEN - Jeri Barnett Harrell, a member of a Florida Pioneer Family died of cancer (Tuesday, September 26, 2006) at Winter Haven Hospital. She was 78. Mrs. Harrell was born in Lakeland, on December 22, 1927. She was a lifelong resident of Polk County. Her ancestors (Combee Family) arrived in Florida around the time when Florida became a state. She began her career in banking and retail. In 1974 she began working in the Business Office at Polk Community College, retiring in 2000 as Supervisor of Accounts Payable after 26 years of service. Retirement did not stop her involvement in the Community. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and volunteered with the Finance and Pew Committees served as a Greeter, delivered flowers to nursing homes and the hospital, and attended many Bible Study Classes. Whenever something needed to be done, Mrs. Harrell was one you could always rely on for help and support. Mrs. Harrell also served on the Board of Directors for her Homeowners’ Association and helped with their fundraising for charitable organizations. She also began volunteering at Winter Haven Hospital in 2000 in the Volunteer Office and served on the Winter Haven Hospital Auxiliary Board as Corresponding Secretary and Historian. Her favorite retirement activity was sharing in the care of her Great Grandson, J.B. Thornhill. Mrs. Harrell is survived by her daughter, Cathy Thornhill of Winter Haven; sister, Jean Kendrick, of Moneta, Virginia; four grandchildren and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her son, Joel Harrell; brothers James Barnett and Roger Barnett; mother, Oveda Combee; father, James M. Barnett. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 AM, Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven, Florida. Services will follow visitation at 11:00 AM, Grace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Grace Lutheran Building Fund in Winter Haven. |
