WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Albert "Al" C. Mathias of Winter Haven died of cancer Sunday (Sept. 24, 2006) in Winter Haven. He was 86.
Born in Evansville, Ind., on May 24, 1920, he came to Winter Haven in 1965. He was a retired lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a partner in the Minute Shops of Florida, and the president and secretary of the Surmath Corp. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Haines City.
Mr. Mathias is survived by his daughter, Marlene Couch, Melbourne; son, Chris Mathias, Ocala; sister, Virginia Stengry, Haines City; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City.
