LAKE WALES -- Mr. Frederick Woodrow Powell Jr. of Lake Wales died of heart failure Monday (Sept. 5, 2005) in Lake Wales. He was 66.

Born in Waverly on Dec. 22, 1938, he was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a lift operator for J.C. Dicks Citrus. He was a member of Lake Pierce Baptist Church.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Sophia Ovead Budowski Powell; sons, David Powell, Tony Powell, both of Lake Wales; daughters, Elizabeth Gatlin, Lisa Powell, Joann Winn, all of Lake Wales, Connie Strickland, Winter Haven; brothers, Nathan Powell, Los Angeles, Spessard Powell, North Carolina, Emory Powell, Fort Myers; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Haines City.
