Evelyn A. McConkey, 79, of Haines City, died of heart failure on Thursday, October 27, 2005, in Winter Haven. A native of Cleveland, he came to the area in 1987 from Ashtabula, Ohio. She worked as a supervisor of housekeeping at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland. She was the past president and member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1500 in East Cleveland. Survivors include her husband, Alexander P. McConkey of Haines City; a son, Alex P. McConkey of Ashtabula, Ohio; two daughters, Alexis Putney of Mentor, Ohio and Kathleen Hall of Tampa; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
