Harold Joseph Buyens

HAINES CITY -- Mr. Harold Joseph Buyens of Haines City died of heart failure Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005) in Haines City. He was 85.

Born in Green Bay, Wis., on June 26, 1920, he was a winter resident before coming here permanently from Chicago in 1993. He was a microbiologist and chief supervisor of dairy and poultry for Swift & Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the first president of the board of directors at Lake Henry Estates. He also owned a consulting firm and traveled the world as a troubleshooter in the dairy and poultry industry. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

Mr. Buyens is survived by his wife, Ruth Ellen Rummell Buyens; sons, James Joseph Buyens, Phoenix, David Joseph Buyens, Plant City, Richard Joseph Buyens, Atlanta; stepdaughter, Janet Truehart, Haines City; seven grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann Catholic Church. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
