DAVENPORT -- Lt. Col. Shelby A. Evans of Davenport died of heart failure Thursday (June 9, 2005) in Tampa. He was 80.

Born in North Little Rock, Ark., on May 27, 1925, he came to Davenport from Winter Haven in 2001. He was a retired fighter pilot for the Air Force and a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lake Alfred.

Lt. Col. Evans is survived by his wife, Marian Evans; son, David Evans, Davenport; daughter, Sandra Karklins, Johnson City, Tenn.; sister, Virginia Evans, Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel.
